Exciting Find

I was shocked to see the plastic cover when I opened the case

Very, very nice

Not sure where "Muffs Typewriter" was

On top of all the knickknacks, the case contained the Operating Instructions:

 and a few fun extras:

I'm tickled to have a SM9 back in the Key Snap collection. This one was quite the find.

By the by - the photography is going very well. I'm trying to figure out where to put digital versions of my work. When I come to a decision I will share.

  1. That's a very nice typeface. I've seen it a couple times before on SM9s, although I don't think I've ever seen it in a catalog of Olympia typefaces.

I think the inspection sheet is probably my favorite piece of ephemera to find with a typewriter.

    1. And here I was hoping you could identify the typeface :) Not to worry, I suppose "Mystery face" has a nice ring. And it matches the "Mystery Game" that was in the case!

  2. Congratulations on the fantastic find! I think it is very special when one gets a machine with the final inspection sheet.

    1. Thanks Bill :) This is the first inspection sheet I've found. I agree with you. It conjures up images of the factory and makes me wonder what was going on with the people who filled out the form.

  3. Super find! Love the ephemera! Now tell me where ya poached it from :D

PS, I have a spare portable tape deck if you need something to play the tape on. (:

    1. I may take you up on that portable. I kept my deck in case I ran across old tapes of my own, but it's a pain to get it out and set it up.

    2. Awesome! The Deseret and the McKellips Goodwill are like typewriter spigots sometimes - I figure the Deseret gets all those typewriters and cameras that went off with LDS missionaries in the 60's/70's, but I can only assume the North Goodwill's largesse comes from the trailer parks it's surrounded by - which is odd, because I've cruised the garage sales that happen in that area and always come up dry. Trying to come up with some theory that might allow me to predict what's likely to show up in given stores based on the probable donation base...

Ok, I'll toss the tape deck in with the Canon in a pack of goodies for ya next time we meet.

  4. Great find with all the extras! Typewriter mystery games 10? I have 8 books, and number 10 sounds promising!

    1. Hey Nat, I wish it was the entire book. Unfortunately it's just a photocopied page. I'm not sure I have the patience to complete the "game." Maybe I'll take it on once I'm housebound by the heat.

  5. What a find! Maybe "Muff" was the owner.

These Arizona typewriters must be nicely preserved, like the cars.

    1. You may be right Richard. Based on the "Western Artist" business card, I'm picturing a dusty cowpoke called Muff pounding out poetry in between branding and teaching dudes how to ride.
